In Provence, a country of celebration, dance occupied a preponderant place. The most famous of all remains the farandole where the dancers move hand in hand, to the mixed sound of tambourines and galoubets.
This three-hole flute that the musician holds in his left hand can play 12 notes and the percussion touched by a mallet marks the rhythm.
Among other southern dances, the volta provides couples with the opportunity to perform impressive and dizzying figures; the harvest, carried out with agricultural tools, depicts the different work in the fields, from sowing to harvest. The troop is also a fan of the matelote symbolizing the activity of sailors or sword fights.
These dances are opportunities to discover the richness of the costumes, period or made in accordance with the original models. The comtadine, a typical feminine costume from Comtat Venaissin, is the epitome of this: the quilted skirts, hand-stitched and featuring patterns such as lines, diamonds and arabesques, are true works of art in shimmering colors .
The Children of Arausio ensemble is made up of around thirty young people from diverse backgrounds, all sharing the same enthusiasm for popular art and the traditions of their region. Through sustained work, this group of amateur artists obtained the CIOFF France label in 2014, a guarantee of quality in the world of folklore in France and abroad.
After 70 years of existence, celebrated with dignity in the Théâtre Antique d'Orange, the ensemble has managed to seduce all audiences and continues to evolve by enhancing its show with new creations without forgetting its roots.
